Report on the town planning of Greenfields
In this geography assingment, we were given the responsibility of planning a town. The
town is called Greenfields. Planning the town included here over the heavy industries as
light industries produce minimal pollution and don't really affect the surrounding
units.
The heavy industrial(2,black) have been put in the most secluded area(southeast of the
freeway) that was availible. I had to be very careful when placing these as they can
cause heavy pollution problems, however, where I have situated them will reduce the
health risks of the community because the southeast winds in winter will blow the
pollution along the river avoiding urban units whilst in summer the northwest winds in
will blow the pollution out of the town, also avoiding all urban units.
The green residential(expensive, for professional and business people)has been ploted on
the southerly tip of Greenfields. This secluded region is elevated 50m and posses a
captivating view of the exquisite town lying below. All this and only being a few minutes
from the city centre.
Orange residential units(mainly industrial workers) have been placed north of the
freeway. They have been put close to industries so as to minimize traveling time and
cost to work, but not to close to risk the health of the occupants from pollution.
My yellow residential units(people of various occupations) have been placed as centrally
as possible so evreryone will be close enough to their work(whether they work in the
civic centre or in the industrial area). All six yellow residential units revolve around
the major civic centre.
In this geography assingment, we were given the responsibility of planning a town. The
town is called Greenfields. Planning the town included careful placement of roads,
traffic lights, 11 residential units, a major civic and administrative centre, a minor
civic centre(mainly for tourism) and 3 light industries and 2 heavy industries. I spent
many hours carefully and strategically planning this town whilst considering prevailing
winds, pollution, congestion etc etc. I will now go over the reasons for my structure of
the town.
Urban units
I have placed my major civic centre(red) south of the freeway as it is easily acessible,
a centrilised area and could be surrounded by six residential units which was necessary
in the planning. My minor civic centre is positioned in the north-northeast region
because it is close to the coast, river and urban units which are all vital to the
tourism industry.
The light industries(3,brown) have been situated north-northwest of the town in a swamp.
I plotted them in the swamp because industries were the only thing you could put in the
swamp and I favoured the light industries here over the heavy industries as light
industries produce minimal pollution and don't really affect the surrounding units.

Roads and Traffic
In my road system I hve carefully positioned three off-ramps and two on-ramps too provide
maximum convenience for everyone.
My main arterial road starts from the off-ramp heading southwest along the freeway. The
arterial road runs past the major civic centre and the yellow urban units.I have also put
another major road through the city centre, in the hope of reducing traffic
congestion. The arterial road continues north across the river to the heavy industrial
units.I positioned the arterial like it is because it provides access fo all people to
the freeway which in turn provides a speedy cruise to other towns and citys. My first
off-ramp travelling north-northwest provides antry into the light industrial and orange
residential region. The second off-ramp gives access to people traveling to the
tourism(minor civic)centre.
The on-ramp heading north-northwest will allow people in that area to join th freeway,
and the same for the On-ramp heading southwest.
Conclusion
In this assignment I have tried to provide the most healthy, accessible and
environmentally friendly city for the community and their needs. I also explained to you
why I made the decisions I did and the results of those decisions
