This paper describes some problems experienced by both Ford and Bridgestone/Firestone that led to major vehicle accidents. It also presents an analysis of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) shown by both companies.
1) Both Ford and Bridgestone/Firestone major ethnical problems were the Ford Explorer and Firestone tread separation cover-up. Both companies blame each other for major vehicle accidents which in some cases took victims lives. 2) The stakeholders are the people who are the drivers and passengers in Ford Explorers with the defected Firestone ATX and Wilderness tires. The "stakes" could be that the possibility that the tread could separate and flip the Explorer over and cause property and human damage. The Ford and Firestone corporations didn't show urgency in resolving the issue with the victim's accident fast enough and replace the defected tires because they were more concerned with company profitability. Also, I don't think the following companies- Ford and Firestone in this case cared about the consumers because it show they knew about this problem with defected tires more than ten years prior to it becoming well known to the American consumers. 3) OUESTION:Conduct a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) analysis of both Firestone and Ford. How do they measure up in fulfilling their various social responsibilities? Corporate Social Responsibility is about how companies manage the business processes to produce an overall positive impact on society (Mallen 2007). As part of Ford Motors CSR Program they donated RMB50,000 to the Environmental Grants China Program, whereby the youth ate encourages to participate in environmental protection (Ford, 2006). However, issues such as the manner in which they handled the thread separation in their tires also has to be taken into consideration when reviewing their Corporate Social Responsibility. If the company is willing to cover up a problem such as this in lieu of profitability then it does not show much for their level of responsibility to their customers.
